FLW--See-Saw Battle Settled at Champlain

Jason Ober and Chris Baumgardner finished off a weekend-long game of see-saw, switching between the first and second place positions throughout all four days of the Northern Division’s event on Lake Champlain. Baumgardner led on days 1 and 3; Ober was on top for day 2, and, most importantly, the fourth and final day.   Despite the myriad of seasoned pros fishing the event, it turned out to be a strategy offered by Ober’s co-angler – Thomas Schaffer, winner of the co-angler division for the weekend – that made the difference.   Ober worked hard baits – mostly crankbaits – all weekend, but after Schaffer caught two big fish off o... Jason Ober wound up on top of a see-saw leaderboard that saw him flip positions twice with Chris Baumgardner. A change in strategy that was suggested by his co-angler – moving from hard baits to a soft plastic presentation – is what he attributes the win to. “I tied up (with [his co-angler] Shafer’s bait) and we caught them on every cast from then until it was time to go. I caught two of my weight fish (with that bait) that I’m sure made the difference for me. “I went from throwing topwater plugs, to cranking to dropshotting to seal this deal. Dropshotting is what just won me this (tournament),” he told us afterwards.
