In last week’s look at coaching changes in the west, the one aspect I failed to mention was the effect on incumbent players. Sometimes, players will not like the look of the new coach and use the opportunity to go elsewhere. The players still must sit out a year, which seems somewhat unfair, but those are the rules. As one observant reader pointed out to me, that was the case with two of the West Coast Conference teams that I mentioned – Pepperdine (which lost Malcolm Thomas, Tyrone Shelley, and Tyler Tucker) and San Francisco (Myron Strong left the program).
